When I first heard of Timur Bekmambetovs’ upcoming period piece ass-kicker, I was filled with a certain level of disbelief. After all, how could the great emancipator and his trademark top hat make a film about Civil War vampires interesting?
Then I saw some footage, and immediately, blood started flowing into certain extremities. This was a film that I could get behind. This is was a hero, that as ridiculous as it sounds, could make for great viewing.
Hell, ol’ honest Abe is almost a superhero with those axe skills of his. And that’s something that director Timur Bekmambetov and producer Tim Burton agree with.
If you’re expecting some new footage of the tall one levelling hordes of Nosferatu with his almighty axe-fu, then settle down, as the following video is mostly a sit down with the director, producer and writer Seth Grahame-Smith, about the film, in which they liken Lincoln to a classic super-hero, with a few snippets of trailer footage thrown in.
Still, it’s interesting to watch, especially as the trio explains how the ghastly origin of Lincoln sets the film and his motivation up. Abraham Lincoln is out in August this year, and stars Dominic Cooper, Rufus Sewell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Plus, it has a train in the film, something that Bekmambetov seems to be more obsessed about, than Sam Raimi and that 1973 Oldsmobile Delta Royale he puts in nearly every single film of his.
