Right, it’s sort of official: Captain America 3 is pretty much Avengers 2.5, judging by the number of characters in spandex in this film alone. There’s already a ton of characters in the flick, who’ll be choosing sides when Captain America and Iron Man go to war. And somebody’s about to get a big addition to their side, as Marvel announced that Paul Rudd and his Ant-Man persona would also pop up in the flick. Collider has a pretty impressive list of all the heroes involved so far, which makes for one massive casting list:
- Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
- Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
- Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow
- Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
- Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon
- Paul Bettany as The Vision
- Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
- Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine
- Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch
- Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man
- Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther
- Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13
- Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones
- William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross
Yes sir, this is the first time anyone from the previous Hulk movie has shown up in the MCU, as William Hurt returns as the infamous Hulk-hunting general. In addition to all that, the film has a plot synopsis:
“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
In the comics, that event happened to be picking a fight with a human bomb who decided to prematurely explode outside of a primary school, thus creating the catalyst for the Superhuman Registration Act. How the Russo brothers plan to balance all these actors, special effects as well as Daniel Bruhl’s Baron Zemo, is beyond me. But throw in the new Spider-Man, and Civil War is building up to be the biggest Captain America adventure ever when it debuts.

That’s an impressive list of superheroes. Looking forward to checking it out. But also wondering how they will give all those guys screen time without making the movie 7 hours long (not that’s I’d mind if it was that long… As long as there were popcorn refill breaks). But it sounds like it’ll be an epic movie indeed!
