Firstly, can we all just agree to call it Die Hard 5 from here on out? There are just far too many dirty jokes that can be made about A Good Day to Die Hard and this right here is a classy joint, and we’d like to keep it that way.
Secondly, John Moore had me a bit worried, mainly due to the fact that the previous film he directed was that boorish train wreck, Max Payne. But Moore says we shouldn’t worry, that he’s not about to change the tone of the character or the movies, and that he will definitely deliver on the action.
Speaking to Empire, the director indicated that he knew that there is a lot of high expectations for the latest installment in the fan-favourite franchsie – which now sees John McClane (Bruce Willis) helping his son (Jai Courtney) out against some Russian terrorists in Moscow after he lands in “some serious international trouble” – and that just because there’s now a father-son relationship doesn’t mean that this will be a family friendly romp to bring in the PG-13 crowds.
“No, because that’s preposterous! I don’t know whether it’s post-financial crash or whatever, but I don’t think people are in the mood for that bollocks anymore. People are well savvy to the cynical reheating of any product, any franchise. Any shit won’t do. The bar’s a bit higher.”
He also indicated that while McClane’s signature wit will be there, people shouldn’t go in expecting a “fish out of water” comedy now that McClane has been removed out of his American element.
“There are a couple of great gags and a couple of great McClanisms. It’s not like he’s this idiot, bumbling around Moscow making ‘America won the Cold War’ jokes. It’s not Carry On Die Hard, I can assure you…”
While he won’t be “bumbling around Moscow” he sure as hell sounds like he will destroying a large portion of it, as Moore promises some pretty big action sequences.
“The scope goes along from New York to Moscow. It’s very, very international. There’s a car chase through Moscow that’s taking us 78 days to shoot!”
Empire will reveal more about their interview with Moore, including exactly what the new bad guy, played by Sebastian Koch, is like, when their print issue hits stands later today.

McClane and son? Somehow that doesn’t have me very excited…

Well the last one was McClane and daughter. Die Hard 4.0 (Live Free or Die Hard) was a Len Wiseman trainwreck, I have to admit, but I did enjoy it still. The casting was pretty good, and the biggest problem with it was the director.

Len Wiseman is what I refer to as a trailer-trash director. No, he’s not some hillbilly from the American mid-west. It’s just that he’s movies look great in trailers, but trash in reality.
