These days, you can’t two steps forward in Hollywood without someone mentioning Star Wars. This very site has already become a hive of scum and villainy, but that’s what happens when you let Kervyn near a kitchen and myself near a toilet.
So keeping in tune with that Star Wars spirit, we’re going 3D today. Did I say today? I meant the near future. Because despite making some serious cash at the box office with a 3D re-release, Star Wars Episode 1 looks set to be the only film in the franchise that will be available in extra dimensions, thanks to Disney postponing future releases of numbers 2 and 3 in the film series.
Does this have anything to do with that announcement of Star Wars leaving the first film in the new trilogy in the hands of lens flare master JJ Abrams? Yes, yes it does.
“Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 per cent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans,” Disney said on the franchise’s official site. “We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.”
While I wasn’t chomping at the bit to see The Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones which starred Woody McWood Larch esq as Anakin Skywalker, I was looking forward to Revenge of the Sith making full use of that format. That’s a large scale film which had some glorious moments, and it would have been phenomenal if LucasFilm had spent a year getting it to look right in extra dimensions.
So I guess I’ll just…look forward to those new films or something. FINE. I’ll wait this time, Mickey Mouse!
