The Doctor, is in. Or he will be, in a few years time. Doctor Strange just got dated, so open up your date book and mark July 8 as the date to save.
Part of the Phase 3 line-up for Marvel, Doctor Strange will follow on after the events of Ant-Man on July 17, 2015 and Captain America 3 on May 6 2016. Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 will arrive in its wake, on July 28 2017. That leaves just one film between Captain America 3 and GOTG 2, for the May 5 2017 date that Marvel has bookmarked.
According to Screen Daily, Marvel is in “advanced negotiations” with the U.K.’s Pinewood-Shepperton Studio to shoot the film at those iconic sets in late 2014/early 2015. Marvel has shot a number of their films lately at the Shepperton studios, movies such as Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Thor: The Dark World and Guardians Of The Galaxy. Pinewood however, is a rather large lot with which to shoot films on, so expect a big budget for the Scott Derrickson Doctor Strange flick then.
If you’re wondering who this Doctor is, all you have to know is that Doctor Strange is a “former neurosurgeon who serves as the Sorcerer Supreme – the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.” This is a character who represents a major departure from the usual Marvel hero. On a strict power level scale, the good Doctor may just be one of the most powerful characters in existence, as he battles all manner of foes.
Marvel has discussed translating the character to their cinematic universe, potentially teasing powers that make use of quantum science, because that stuff is trippy enough as it is. With a release date in place, a director ready and a place to shoot, the only thing missing from this mystic movie is a leading man.

No to quantum science mumbo jumbo. It’s magic. Put on your big boy pants & own it.
