From Jared Hess, the director that brought us the cult comedy Napolean Dynamite and the less favorable Nacho Libre, comes a new comedy, Don Verdean. And this one is looking really funny.
The story centers around Don Verdean (Sam Rockwell), an a self-proclaimed Biblical archaeologist that is hired by an ambitious small-town pastor (Danny McBride) to find sacred relics in the Holy Land in order to boost attendance numbers in his congregation. The hilarity ensues when Verdean comes up short and his attempt to cover up his failure fuels a comic conspiracy, made all the more comical with the addition of a feud between two rival congregations led by McBride and his nemesis pastor, played by Will Forte.

The trailer looks really good and you might have recognized Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), who from what I can tell delivers another memorable performance, playing off some great chemistry with Rockwell and giving us some promising on-screen moments. Rounding off the cast for Don Verdean is Amy Ryan & Leslie Bibb, making this quite an impressive collective of comedic talent.
I am definitely looking forward to this one and if you are a fan of Hess’s previous comedies then this movie might be just for you.
Don Verdean releases on November 11 2015.
