The most interesting part of film-making, at least to me, has always been special effects. From practical through to digital, it’s an interesting process. If you’re the kind of guy who enjoys reading behind the scenes on that stage of post-production, then you’ve most likely picked up an episode of Cinefex in your lifetime.
It’s kind of like the varsity textbook on that craft, except it’s actually interesting and won’t bore you to the point where you wonder if you could stab your eyes out with a rubber. Finding back issues of those magazines are difficult though. At least it was, until this Kickstarter rolled around.
A new Kickstarter for Cinefex will put the entire collection of 126 issues onto iPad, bringing decades worth of detail and behind the scenes articles into the digital age. I’ve got a couple of those issues myself, and they’re actually really worth reading.. But to have an entire library to peruse at my leisure on my iPad, I’d dig that.
Right now, the Kickstarter is sitting at $172 000, with 11 days to go before the $217 500 deadline. There’s a bunch of Kickstarterrewards for backing this project, themed around various films, from Star Wars to Star Trek. That’s decades worth of knowledge that doesn’t just deserve support out of interests sake, but for the sake of preserving it.
