I will admit that I know next to nothing about Max Steel, neither the original 1990’s Mattel toy line turned early 2000’s comic book and animated series, nor the more recent animated reboot airing on Disney XD, but I do know a cool robo-suit when I see one. And that’s exactly what you get to see – among some other pics of scarred teen heartthrobs, burgeoning young love and boys angrily punching walls (Take that, wall!) – in these first few pics (via MovieFone) from Paramount’s upcoming Max Steel live-action adaptation.
The new film, directed by Stewart Hendler (Sorority Row) and penned by popular X-Men comic book scribe turned screenwriter Christopher Yost (Thor: The Dark World), sees Disney Channel star Ben Winchell as titular Max McGrath, Maria Bello as his mother Molly McGrath, Ana Villafañe as romantic interest Sydney Gardner and Andy Garcia as the mysterious Dr. Miles Edwards.
The original series dealt with a blonde-haired teen Josh McGrath, who after an accident at the lab where his father works is able to turn himself into the dark haired, adult superhero Max Steel. The new Disney XD series though, and which this movie appears to be taken from, follows the aforementioned Maxwell McGrath, who also gets powers from a laboratory accident, but now Max is unable to contain the TURBO energy inside him – TURBO being Tachyon Unlimited Radiant Bio-Optimized energy, because screw your acronyms not fitting. In order to stop the energy from going critical and killing him, Max literally joins with his robotic friend Steel (created by Max’s father from experiments with aliens), and the two become one superpowered being imaginatively named Max Steel. Because, you know Maxwell + Steel.
Max Steel is an origin story that will chronicle the adventures of 16-year old Max McGrath and alien companion Steel, who must harness and combine their tremendous new powers to evolve into the turbo-charged superhero Max Steel. As these two unlikely friends struggle to accept their oddly connected fates, they begin to uncover unimaginable secrets, working together to find the truth, and fighting the mysterious forces threatening their world.
Max Steel is still currently in production, and has no scheduled release date yet, but the cast will be present at Comic-Con in a few week’s time when more details will be unveiled.

Cool. I work with the guys from Max Steel all the time and all the marketing material they bring to the meetings are so interesting. Love the concept.

I suppose this is the closest I’ll ever get to a Firestorm movie.

This will have to be my Guyver fix. That sequel abomination with Mark Hamil was shocking.

It reminds me of that too, plus the header image looks like Iron Man – it’s all so confusing. Please don’t remind me of the chubby CIA agent with a fuzzy beard.

That header image pose. I really don’t get it. How many times have you gone onto your haunches and used your fist to support you? It’s much more sturdy to spread out your fingers. Damn posers 😉

LOL
Hey luckily he has superpowers to be able to do that. Unlike Bruce Wayne in TDKR who kicks a pillar to shit with his own heel (the leg mechanism didn’t support his foot). Must’ve hurt like a bitch. Shattered bones and all.
