I enjoyed the first Rush Hour movie, it was a fun wild ride with good doses of action and comedy. The sequels however, I found flat, uninspiring, full of racial stereotyping and reliant on the same gags from the original movie. However, despite my concerns, the movies were all still financially successful and so it makes sense that CBS is looking to cash in on that success by making a TV adaptation of it.
Except it looks like they are perhaps relying a little too much on the popularity of the movies by basing entire scenes directly from those of the movies. Have a look at the recently released trailer and judge for yourself:
What made the movies bearable was the strong chemistry between Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, even if the latter’s role bordered on ridiculousness at times. The lead characters cast in this TV series seem to be lacking that chemistry and if they are simply going to give us more of the same, only worse, then I’m not sure this is going to be worth the time.
If you are a fan of the Rush Hour movies you may still love this series, but if not, I would approach with extreme caution or stay away entirely. Let’s hope this trailer is based purely on scenes from the pilot episode and that the overall series actually has a lot more to offer.
The Rush Hour TV series will star Jon Foo and Justin Hires in the lead roles, with Trey Callaway acting as producer. It will be debuting on 31 March 2016 and unfortunately will likely be coming our way soon after.

Seems like Justin Hires is trying to play the role like Chris Tucker and he is doing a kak job of it. That’s the only problem I can see with this series O_o

Sweet Jackie Chan’s Ghost! That looks utterly terrible. TERRIBLE. From the casting to the writing to the direction to the very lowbudgetness of it all. Rush Hour is a gigantic, very successful franchise. How the frak did an adaptation this horrible looking ever make it to the screen?!

Not convinced either way. Will probably get the “demo” of the series and check it out.
