Its never good to receive news of any member of a film set gets injured and unfortunately that misfortune has struck on the set of the next Maze Runner film, titled Death Cure. The film lead star, Dylan O’ Brien was injured on set in Vancouver last month. There has been no official word from the studio on details of the accident, but according to TMZ, the accident was the result of a car stunt gone wrong in which a vehicle hit O’Brien, leaving the actor with “severe” injuries and broken bones.
Thankfully, he is on the road to making a full recovery, but it is expected that his recovery will take longer than the initial 6 week assessment that was made. And as a result the studio has now moved out the release date for the film indefinitely, to allow the actor enough time to make a full recovery.
The full 20th Century Fox press release statement is as follows:
The resumption of principal photography on ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ has been further delayed to allow Dylan O’Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible.
Giancarlo Epsito also had the following to say of the stars recovery to E!:
He’s healing very well. He got put together a couple of weeks ago… He’s one tough cookie. He got his bell rung. I would imagine many who witnessed thought that was it… [But] he’s a survivor. The one good thing about Dylan that I think is going to help him get back on schedule with us very soon is he has a great attitude.
As with the previous two movies in the franchise, Maze Runner: The Death Cure is directed by Wes Ball from a screenplay by T.S. Nowlin, based off the novels from James Dashner. The fill follows the events of 2014’s The Maze Runner and 2015’s Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and co-stars Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rosa Salazar, Ki Hong Lee and Dexter Darden.
