I’ve got a confession to make. I absolutely freaking love certain South African films. Like Leon Schuster’s Panic Mechanic. Or the first Orkney Snorknie film. And hells yes, Poena is Koning. Films so bad, that they’re good. In fact, I haven’t found a single person who has yet to not crack a smile watching Poena.
Omo boxes of brandy aside, it’s been quite a few years since Wessels and co did a cheesy lion walk. But now he’s back. Back to walk the walk of the lion. In a hundred meter dash that is.
I’m going to level with you folks here: The film looks bad. But bad…in a genius way. I’d be straight out lying if I didn’t admit that I just had a good laugh at that trailer. Wessels plays three characters in the film, which is structured as a mockumentary. Detailing the highs, lows and shenanigans of the Leeuloop competition, the movie centers on Manie Mol, an up and coming contestant who enters into the singing and dancing race.
The film stars Robbie Wessels, Annette Engelbrecht, Emo Adams, Hamilton Wessels, Seth Zimu, Jan-Adriaan van Rooyen and Justin Smit, with Diony Kempen and Wessels directing. 100M Leeuloop is out March 15.
