We’re so used to being bombarded with teaser posters for teaser trailers for exclusive sneak peek trailers months before a film’s release, that it was weird that Paramount left it this late to get the promo ball rolling on Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, the latest film featuring Tom Clancy’s famous literary character. But now it’s full steam ahead on the Chris Pine Express, as just over a week after we saw the first footage of the young actor in the role, we get our second trailer, showing off some new footage and a bit more plot.
Based on the Jack Ryan character created by bestselling author Tom Clancy, the film is a contemporary action thriller set in the present day. The original story, written by David Koepp, follows a young Jack as he uncovers a financial terrorist plot.
Well, at least the new footage shown here addressed my original fears of what angle they were taking with the whole “Double-oh no, my husband is secretly a spy” thing. Having Keira Knightley’s character actually be volunteering to assist Chris Pine’s Jack in stopping Kenneth Branagh’s evil plan of making people talk broken English, feels a lot better to me than my original suspicion of her just playing the damsel in distress.
Also, there are far too few movies nowadays starring Kevin Costner. I’m glad this is being remedied.
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit will be climbing down your cinema’s chimney on December 25, 2013, to bring you the gift of espionage.

Fully agreed on Costner point.
