It may have been Easter weekend, but while everyone else was at Church, cinemas were boasting an even bigger attendance over that period. The latest figures from the top ten are in, with a few debuts attempting to dethrone the current king of the silver screen, The Hunger Games.
And they all failed. The Hunger Games hung on to its number one spot, bringing in another $33.5 million to its total, resulting in an american gross of over $302 million so far.
American Reunion arrived in second place, earning the sexy nostalgia flick a $21.5 million profit, while James Camerons’ 3D version of Titanic re-released into the third spot, making the iceberg even richer with a $17.3 million haul.
Wrath of the Titans dropped two places into fourth position, making $15 million for its mulleted demigods, while Mirror Mirror slipped to the fifth spot with an $11 million take, ahead of the sixth position 21 Jump Street, which hung in with a further $10.2 million in its coffers.
Dr Seuss’ The Lorax was still hanging around in seventh place with a $5 million weekend take, while Salmon Fishing in the Yemen reeled in an eighth spot and a further $975 000 profit, with John Carter of Mars fighting to stay in the top ten, dangling at ninth place with a tally of $820 000.
Safe House was the surprise of the week, as it clawed it’s way back from the twelfth spot back into tenth, with a quick grab of $581 000.
