You can’t keep a good idea down! Or at least, the potential to restart a franchise. The remake engine is once again revving, and Sony is looking to drive on through for a new adaptation of Jumanji. Announced a while back, the reboot hasn’t seen much action since then, but as of now, the studio has a writer that’s going to tackle the project.
Zach Helm is going to be updating those pesky kids playing a cursed game that they shouldn’t for Sony, as he’ll be dipping the 1996 film into some modern day sauce.
The original film starred Robin “WHAT YEAR IS THIS?” Williams, Kirsten Dunst before she became evil and tried to destroy Spider-Man, and Bradley Pierce, playing a board game with some very solid rules involving animals and relentless big game hunters.
Helm, whose previous credits include Stranger than fiction and Mr Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, is staying mum on what the update will keep, ditch and add, as is Sony.
There’ll probably be some furious feathered avian species and naughty swine in this update, we reckon. What do you think? Is 16 years still too soon to reboot Jumanji?

I’d be curious to see how this develops…
