With new trailers just unveiled during the Super Bowl for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, plus both Guardians of the Galaxy AND massively ambitious X-Men: Days of Future Past ramping up their promo material, the time has come to debate which superhero flick will be ultimate box office champion and (maybe) critical darling of 2014. Place your bets now. Alternatively, do you think the Golden Age of Superhero Movies is drawing to a close?

Spiderman is too busy with all those villians and Gaurdians could very well be a huge flop so my bet is on X-MEN.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of those, but I’m going to bet on Captain America as the one I’ll like the most. GotG is the riskiest one of the lot when it comes to the box office though I think.
I’m not tired of seeing a new superhero movie every few months, but I think they need to be smart in telling their stories though to keep interest high in the genre overall. Personally I’d like to see a few anti-heroes get the big screen treatment, or just something “meaner” than the current stuff which is a bit clean at times.

Guardians of the Galaxy is the movie you’re asking for. Meaner and antiheroes.

I hope so, it looks cool from the little bits I’ve seen.
I quite enjoyed the Punisher movies, thought Thomas Jane in 1 made a good one, but 2 had the better action.

My money for the winner is on X-Men:Days of Future past. It looks like they will be doing quite well with that film. I’m, not too sure if Captain America is really such a good draw card as other superheroes, but I can be proved wrong.
If they keep things fresh I don’t think they will run out of steam this year. However, next year may become an issue. People are starting to get tired of all the superhero hype.
